Is anyone familiar with the term? I think is may be strictly peninsular, but I am not sure.

Nunca la había nombrar. En el RAE dice que viene de zamacuco, y esa si la había escuchado y que significaba "torpe", pero no sé en que región se use. Y no la he vuelto a escuchar o leer por más de 30 años, hasta ahora que leí la definición de jamacuco.

Como "indisposición pasajera" es como se usa en España sobre todo. El CREA da 7 u 8 ejemplos (todos de España).

It´s very colloquial. Example Le dió un hamacuco ayer por la tarde, it can also be a serious health problem
