This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for January 1, 2009

terremoto - masculine noun (el) - earthquake. Look up terremoto in the dictionary

Hay un sistema de alarmas en la Ciudad de México que alerta a la gente cuando va a haber un terremoto.
There is a system of alarms in Mexico City to warn people when there is going to be an earthquake.

Another good word for 'earthquake' is temblor.
