Ajo

Si tengo una cabeza de ajo, ¿se dice que tengo "un ajo" o "unos ajos" o sólo "ajo" o qué?

En inglés, se dice que tengo "an onion" y "some garlic," pero en español, no sé.

I hope my question makes sense. Please point out any mistakes in my Spanish.

Yo digo "un ajo". Se puede llamar ajo a la cabeza de ajo o a cada diente de ajo. Las recetas aclaran "dientes de ajo" o "ajo entero".

Also,
un diente de ajo = a clove of garlic
And,
cabeza de ajo = bulb of garlic
