How are you all learning spanish? Taking classes or teaching yourselves thru software, books, etc. Also for how long?

Look. In my experience personal. I have learnt of an empiric way, because only I have as teacher to my brother during four long months. But now I have not any teacher who is teaching me the language, then I learn daily the language and I get better my spelling inside of the forum, and sometimes, I gift myself a chance to speak with American people from Houston, they help me when I don't understand anything for voice and for chat, I have not any book only am learn more of the that I can do it, but well, I even need improve more my English. But the secret of all this is if you love something then you will get hight level to learning of the way you can do it.

My daughter's Spanish has improved quite a bit by reading comic books, and going to the library to checking out books in the Kindergarten through 3rd grade reading level. Sometimes looking for books requires a little leg work. We have to drive to an area that predominantly Latino/Hispanic to find what she needs.

I started learning Spanish in middle school. In my middle school in 7th grade you get to choose 2 languages. I chose Spanish and French. in 8th grade you can only pick 1. I chose Spanish.
Now I'm in high school, in Honors Spanish.
So I've been learning Spanish for about 3 years.

I've known some Spanish words (and learned more) one time by a kids' program (for the computer).

I've been learning Spanish since I was in 4th grade. But, because I was ignorant until high school, I never actually learned anything. I've recently gained an interest in being fluently bilingual, and hopefully, if I'm lucky, multilingual. I take classes in High school.

I've been studying Spanish for about 13 years now. Five years of formal study.

I took Spanish in college about 20 years ago, but didn't learn anything. (That's a long story!) Now I have some new Latin friends who would love to speak Spanish with me, and I was given a cash gift at my previous job ... so I decided to buy the Level 1 Rosetta Stone for Latin American Spanish. It has been GREAT!! I have finished about 75% of the course, and am currently deciding if I can afford to get the Levels 2 and 3....

In the meantime, I supplement the software learning with Tomísimoj (I can't tell you how MUCH I'm learning here!!!) and with a few podcasts made for learning Spanish. I'm also trying to do some reading in Spanish and watching a telenovela on Telemundo.

This time around, I'm having a BLAST learning Spanish!!

Estudiaba español en escuela donde aprendí los básicos--el vocabulario, la gramática, y los verbos irregulares. Después tenia la oporunidad de usar lo que aprendí, a así me puse bien versado en español. Ahora uso periódicos
y este foro para aprender más. Aunque hablo bien, hay cosas que no entiendo y encuentro este foro beneficial. Sé que castellano siempe será mi segundo lenga. pero ahora mi vocabulario había mejorado mucho y mi uso de español suena menos chapureado gracias a Tomísimo.

When I arrive to Tomisimo. I didn't know much English and well, now since I'm here, I can write my English a bit better. And additional it. I can speak with people from other contries. Well I even have thought back off the website, I like my the company of my partners here.

I guess that the translation would be of the following way (Asi me puse),(So I was of intelligent), (Se que el castellano siempre sera mi segunda lengua),(I know that the Spanish will be my second tongue), (Y mi uso del Español suena menos chapureado gracias a Tomisimo),(And my use at the Spanish sound less pretty or bad thank to Tomisimo).

a así me puse bien... I became well versed in Spanish? Although I think versado can be used without using bien in front of it and still carry the same meaning.

Sé que castellano siempe será mi segundo lenga.. I know that Spanish (Castilian) will always be my second language.

mi uso de español suena menos chapureado gracias a Tomísimo... My use of Spanish sounds less chapureado (I do not know this word) thanks to Tomísimo.

Champurrear lo tomo como "salpicado", o sea, salpicado con cosas buenas y malas. "hit and miss"

You're welcome sir. And in Re: champurreado y chapurreado.

I think, and this is hard to believe "I think" :-) that we use champurrear. Although I am not sure as I have been living in this country for so long.

The dictionaries I use list chapurrar and chapurrear as synomyms. Champurrear seems to be something else, although one dictionary does list it as a synonym of chapurrear.

I haven't looked any further yet.

Here in the US, mexican sell a beverage, i think it is made out of rice and they put lots of cinnamon in it. It is called champurrado. If you slurp the straw the wrong way you'll get champurrado all over you. They use it as being champuarreado. A mess. (salpicado)
