Sub-forum for brand new language learners?

Is there a sub-forum for those of us who are very new to learning Spanish? I read some of the grammatical questions asked in the grammar section and I KNOW that the people here are WAY beyond me! I would love to ask some very, very basic questions, but think that I might be wasting the time of those who are so graciously helpful!

Hi Laepelba,

A very warm welcome upfront, make yourself at home. I understand your feeling. Just consider first:

1) That our main strength is that we are a group, a very heterogeneous group, but a well-articulated team. If you have basic qs only one part of members will answer them and the seniors will just review the answers and make short commentaries to make 100% sure you get a right answer.

2) That our backgrounds are very very different as well. You have here people from their early 20s to their early 50s who may be native speakers of Spanish but English teachers, or, English native speakers but Spanish teachers. Some people will answer your queries from the academic side, some will do as users, and as users from Spanish speaking areas that may differ in usage rules. For some people here, Like Jessica or El Danes, Spanish is their third language, they are students as you are, and will have valuable advice as well. The multiplicity of approaches is amazing. I hope you find this fact interesting because I do.


Here is a suggestion: if you want, you could tag your queries with some word, such as basic or elementary, if that makes you feel better, because most of the times all of us will read the questions, though some of us may pass on commenting.

Thanks everyone! I certainly do feel welcome. (I have been "lurking" without posting for a few weeks now, and know that this will be a safe place to ask questions.)

Planet Hopper, your points are well taken and appreciated. Also, I get the gist of your last sentence ... but what is "tio"? And what does "asi juntitos" mean?

Tio is informal for dude or lad
Asi juntitos means side by side, cozy

Ahhhh!! Thank you! Therefore I need to introduce myself. My name is Lou Ann and I am a high school mathematics teacher living in the suburbs of Washington DC. I greatly look forward to improving my Spanish, as (1) many of my students speak Spanish at home, and (2) I have recently made some close friends who are from Latin America (Perú and Uruguay to be specific).

Spain the word is mainly for the Spain's people, but itself meaning for a partner or friend, , now we Mexico on used the word Friend (Amigo), (Compadre), (Cuate). There are alots words or expression used on my country, but the word Tio as I said before only is used of the Spain people, it's a kind of expression colloquial only in sundry regions from Spain or also some parts of south American, then you can use the word very colloquial to do mention to someone, you get know him.
