Yes, the meaning is fine
in a figurative sense it's like a lion wich loses his claws ("perder garra") or like a boxer who loses his uppercut ("perder el gancho") used in sports or flirting... "Según los argentinos, Messi ha perdido su garra..." "El ha perdido su garra, las chicas ya no se fijan en él" saludos ![]()
