Hola a todos,

La frase en cuestión es del libro Tinta invisible de Javier Peña.

En el siglo XIX, los escritores franceses comenzaron a reunirse en la orilla izquierda del Sena, en un vecindario conocido como Barrio Latino por haber sido el latín la lengua universita- ria en la vecina Sorbona. Allí nació el concepto de bohemia. Los artistas se mudaron a los apartamentos de renta baja de la rive gauche, huyendo del nuevo estilo de vida burgués. A esos artistas los llamaron bohemios como llamaban a las personas nómadas de raza gitana, muchas de las cuales habían llegado a Francia a través del Reino de Bohemia —en la actual Chequia—, después de que el rey Segismundo les concediera un salvoconducto. El término empezó a designar a los artistas a mediados de los años 30 del XIX, pero se popularizó a mitad de siglo gracias a la novela Escenas de la vida de Bohemia, de Henry Murger, que Puccini inmortalizó en su versión operística, La Bohème.

What does "que Puccini inmortalizó" refer to: El término or la novela Escenas de la vida de Bohemia?

I suspect it should refer to la novela.

I have my doubts because of the use of "versión operística" instead of "ópera".

It means that Puccini composed an opera based on the novel and that action led to the general public being aware of it from then on.

Inmortalizar is a set verb in this kind of context meaning taking something known by a few, or being just a fad, and making it well known and still popular as the time goes by.
