Les Luthiers - Maths, language, music...

Well this may be almost a "rhetorical question"... but What does Maths have to do with language, music and chemistry?

Well, there may be many answers to that, but Les Luthiers gave some inkling on their co-creation with "Tales (o Thales) de Mileto", as you can see and hear here,

This thread can be continued with other such creations... to answer the question...
(Hey, I remembered this when I checked Lou Ann thread on "voseo", even if there is no "voseo" here, the singers are Argentinians... so it can be an interesting exercise to learn Spanish with the Argentinian accent...)
(If you don't get how the 'chemistry' gets involved in all this... then you have to study up on Les Luthiers... biographies, background, etc.)

Nice video (although I don't see what it has to do with Thales' theorem, but who cares?)

Cute music ... is there a website with the lyrics?

Here's what I get:
Si tres o más paralelas (don't you need to say "lineas" o "rectas"?)
Son cortadas por dos transversales

Then I get a bit lost...
Dos segmentos ??? ni una vez ??? son proporcionales.

I think this would be fun to pick apart ... when I have time later, I'm going to try to see if I can understand the rest of it...

Thanks!!

@Lou Ann,
I've not listened to it again, but the beginning is, (with repeated syllables which I don't include)

Ah, here it is in full http://www.calidoscopio.com/calidosc...rincipal56.htm

La he descargado y la he puesto en mi lista de reproducción. Voy a escucharla regularmente mientras caminando al trabajo. ¡Gracias por bonita propuesta, JPablo! Es una melodía muchísimo agradable y pegadiza.
---
Have dowloaded it and have put it on my play list. Will listen it regularly while commuting to work. Thank for nice suggestion, Jpablo! Very cheering and catchy melody indeed.

De nada.
You're welcome.
If you "commute", maybe the best for Spanish is just "viajo" or "voy"... "Camino" (walk) is literally if you don't use any transportation means... only the "car of San Fernando".

The car of Saint Ferdinand: some times by foot, and some others walking... [My literal translation doesn't rhyme in English... but it is a common way to say just "walking" in Spanish]

Nice gift. (I listened to those some 25 years ago, or so... and I got all their albums during the 80s...) "Cartas de color" is a very good album...

(si no recuerdo mal)

-A
sí es, estamos llegando a las Canarias.

I'm a bit late coming back to this conversation...

"Sleep schmeap..." is sort of a way to be dismissive. I can take any noun or noun phrase (or just about any phrase/word that might "work") and be dismissive with it by making it rhyme with "schm...."

Work, schmirk ... I don't care about my job. (An outright lie!!)
Lunch, schmunch ... I never have time for lunch. (Because I'm so busy working, and I want to make it sound like I really don't care if I actually take a lunch break.)
Books, schmooks ... (I said that, jokingly, to my mother who is a librarian and a voracious reader when she wanted to make sure that the library she manages has enough reading material...)
Chores, schmores ... I'd rather be studying Spanish than cleaning my house.

Ha ha - I thought your sleep scmeep comment was a reference to this thread 3 weeks ago, which I guess you must have missed.

You're right - I definitely missed that thread. I don't know if my "explanation" is definitive, but it's how I've heard this "schm..." thing used....
