May and June are the best two months of the year.
Mayo y junio son los mejores dos meses del año.
or
Mayo y junio son los mejores meses del año.

For some reason the translator is giving me the second version which doesn't contain "dos". Why? Is that correct? What if I want to include "dos", is it still correct?

Yes, still correct.

You can even say Mayo y junio son los (dos) (meses) mejores del año.

Said in this way, you kind of emphasize the part of being the best.
