Yo que + condicional

escuché esta frase en una canción:

"yo que moriría porque tú me fueras fiel"

yo sé que "yo moriría" significa "I would die" en Inglés pero no entendí por qué usaron "yo que" antes del verbo en lugar de simplemente "yo". ¿Qué significa "yo que"?

"yo que moriría porque tú me fueras fiel" -> "I would die because you were faithful to me" No tiene sentido en Inglés!!!

I guess is a poetic way to say that you would give your life for something you want (to happen)?

The other item to notice that this text is not a full sentence, as the dependent clause "que moriría porque tú me fueras infiel" functions as an adjective modifying the noun "yo", and the whole thing is a noun phrase that could server as the subject of a larger sentence.

gracias Chileno, pero todavia no entiendo esa frase cuando es traducido en Inglés.

"I would die because you were faithful to me"

¿debe ser: "I would have been willing to die or you if only you were faithful to me"?

Puedes ser tan falso
y puedes ser tan cruel
y yo que moriría
porque tú me fueras fiel

Yo que moriría porque tú me fueras fiel = I would (be willing to) die just to get your faithfulness

Yo moriría = I would die
Yo, que moriría = I, someone who would die -who would even pay with his life- (because that's the kind of person I am)

para que tú me seas fiel (in order to achieve that)
porque tú me fueras fiel (in order to achieve what we all know it doesn't exist at this very moment)

Talking

Wrholt:

I didn't mean your answer wasn't helpful. I think duxviloxi is having an existential problem rather that a grammatical one.

It isn't "because of", but rather "so that"

Would that clarify any the issue?
