That fragment contains a "queísmo": "De repente, me acordé de que..."
Also, the last sentence sounds better if written: "se me pasó la sensación de que un idiota". We avoid to place the verb at the end. La editorial se ha lucido. A pleasure. |

I agree with Rusty's translation. Inflicting pain to himself, the narrator focused on something else than the shame of feeling like an idiot.

Thank you all so much! I understood what he was saying, I just didn't understand why he said it lol. It just seemed really random. But that makes sense now. I just needed your guys' three sets of eyes. Thanks everyone.
