Country of birth

Is it correct to say

-I have deep feelings for Denmark as I have for the US, my country of birth.

I have seen this several times as an isolated phrase, probably in a form. Do you think the red words are wrong, as my friend says, and it should be the country of my birth?

The words are fine as they are. Your friend's idea is equally fine.
And you can say, "my birth country."
