Crotalito,
You've used the word weir and wear. Neither is correct. You probably meant to say use. And the verb can is never followed by the word to. It is directly followed by an infinitive. So: The word el laptop is very weird because that word is not used in my country. If you don't know how to speak correctly, you can use the word el laptop. |

Laptop is not a proper spanish word, so really it doesn't matter if it's la or el
In Spain, we usually say "el laptop", because for us is "el ordenador laptop" In mexico, I suppose they use "la laptop", because the usually use "la computadora laptop" saludos ![]()

Not, Sosia we used the word La laptop or La computadora, we don't used the word El laptop or el Computador, it's might is used in your country but on my country is La laptop, but I said before above that never mind as you can to say that sentence anyway is understanding the phrase.

Uhh, sosia was only trying to say that in Spain, where they say el ordenador for computer, they think el laptop sounds better (el ordenador laptop).
And in Mexico, where they say la computadora for computer, they think la laptop sounds better (la computadora laptop). Laptop is an English loanword. It's used as an adjective (as in the examples I gave above) and a noun. What gender the noun form takes is a toss up. The dictionaries I consult say it's masculine. This agrees with the way it is used in Spain. The Mexicans say it's femenine. By the way, in Spain they prefer to say el portátil instead of el laptop. |
