I think it means give it a try, but I'm not sure. Can someone confim this?

No idea. With more context I would try to find out, but I don't know this usage.

In context it's dar una rueda de prensa.
It may mean take to to the press or talk to the reporters.  I'm not sure

It's use here means "to give a press conference."

That's true. But you must say "una rueda de prensa". "Dar una rueda" means "to give a wheel".

Irmamar is right. One must say "de prensa" or it makes no sense at all.
 One can say: Dar una conferencia/rueda de prensa. Ofrecer una conferencia/rueda de prensa. Invitar a una conferencia/rueda de prensa.
