I didn't know that "comb his hair" meant "to beat someone"... But I'll trust you...
![]() I've never heard "le doy para el pelo". Le dió una paliza/tunda is commonly used. Either one. ![]()

De acuerdo, la más neutral es "le dio una paliza/tunda". Las que se me ocurren son demasiado mexicanas o altisonantes.

I never heard combed his hair to mean give him a beating. I have heard:
to clock someone over the head, or to clock him one. I have heard golpe en la cabeza.

I wonder if it is some kind of gangster metaphor, like when they play "violin" or something like that. Thanks, anyhow. On "dar para el pelo" Moliner says, Dar para el pelo a alguien. 1 Dejarle malparado en una riña o discusión. 2 Dirigirle una reprensión muy violenta.

Never heard "Combed his hair" in that context in UK; what is widely used is "Wiped the floor with him!", but even that's not normally physical violence, rather a very emphatic verbal reprimand!
