Fence

What would be the correct translation of 'fence' to Spanish? Google translate states the translation from English or Dutch (hek) to Spanish as 'valla'.

My Dutch - Spanish dictionary, however, gives several other possibilities:
if made from wood: valla, barrera, estacada
if made from iron: reja, enrejado, verja

What is the exact difference between valla, barrera and estacada?

Google translates the iron-possibilities as: grating, grilling etc.. Are these words commonly used for a fence, and what is the difference between them?

Any help would be welcome.

Peter

The only words I've heard used for a fence are cerca and valla.

Of course, a fence can be called an enclosure, a barrier, a railing, etc. Perhaps this is why vallado, estacada, cerco, and barrera (and other words) can all be used to describe a fence.

Consider what material the fence is made of to come up with other words, like (em)palizada and alambrado.

Wait for others to comment, but I would use cerca in Latin America for the fence you see around gardens or yards.

Estaca = stake

Hence, estacada is a fence made of stakes (stockade fence)
