Obligatory intro post

I'm a Welsh student [Soy Galés(?)], learnt Spanish a little at compulsory MFL lessons in school, now practising casually with podcasts, phone apps and hopefully these forums! All for fun right now, but hoping to become as close to fluent as possible in the future.

Using these forums to pick the brains of fluent Spanish speakers (or native speakers), I'm pretty conscious about accurate pronunciation and spelling.

First thing - which forum is best to direct my pronunciation queries? Teaching & Learning Techniques? Vocab/Grammar/Practice? Don't want my posts irritating people by being in the wrong place!

You're right, there really isn't a specific forum or forum group that collects posts about pronunciation. It seems that questions about pronouncing individual words tend to show up under Vocabulary, while questions about how to practice pronunciation often show up under Teaching and Learning Techniques. Other questions seem to show up almost anywhere.

It doesn't seem to be an issue if you occasionally post something in a forum that may not be the most appropriate location; Our Friendly Forum Moderators are masters at herding wayward threads to better homes when they think it makes sense to do so.

Spanish accents, just a English accents, vary greatly. Like English, the Castillian language is truly international. For that reason, pronunciation issues become an agruable point. My suggestion, as it has been in other threads, is to look in to singers of Boleros. Boleros are popular ballads mostly from the 1950's often sung by people who were masters of communication. You can hear their recording and find the lyrics to the songs online. They were usually sung with an international Latin-American accent by singers like Olga Guillot and La Lupe. About a decade ago Luis Miguel recorded an album of Boleros, and did a fine job as well. Your may learn to pronounce Spanish well if you repeatedly listen to these singers and follow the written lyrics. Additionally you'll learn good songs like "Teatro",and "Contigo Aprendí" with lyrics that usually make sense.
