Hola a todos,

La frase en cuestión es del libro Tinta invisible de Javier Peña.

A mediados de los años 90, un odontólogo le dijo que no podía hacer nada para salvar sus dientes, debía extraérselos todos empezando por los de arriba. Después de la primera cirugía, Amis se sorprendió al verse en el espejo del hotel. Se sorprendió porque su cara, que siempre le había parecido convexa, se había desparramado y se había vuelto cóncava y alargada. Recitó todas las letras del alfabeto para oír cómo sonaban con el nuevo instrumento en que se había convertido su boca, pero se atascó con la efe.

What does "su cara... se había desparramado" mean?

Imagine a little pool of oil on a surface that spreads to cover a larger area. His face looked as if it has been subjected to the same process. Maybe we'd say his face had been overstrewn or scattered over?
