Only special cases like "EL emperador se indultó a sí mismo de su delito por irse con mujeres casadas" ![]() ![]()

"Indultar" is a legal term that means to forgive someone who has committed a crime. "Indultarse" would mean one forgives oneself, which, to my mind, could only be said in a figurative sense.
The best translations here are proposed by Sosia and Chileno. Also "escaparse" and sometimes, "desembarazarse".
