Hi all,

I'm a beginner in Spanish and I'm wondering if anyone could make sure these paragraphs don't have any errors. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I posted here before and the feedback was excellent. ¡Gracias!

What I want to say: There are many shops in the city and they sell everything. The clothes are inexpensive and they have a lot of bargains. You wear casual clothes at the university. For an interview you wear a black suit and tie. In my home I wear blue jeans and a green t-shirt. At a casual party wear jeans and a shirt. For a formal party, I wear the same clothes I would for an interview. I wear an orange swimsuit and a white Panama hat while at the beach with friends. It's the latest style.

My favorite place in the apartment is the living room because the red sofa is very comfortable. You will like it!

No offense intended, but I believe you need to revisit every sentence.

English word order seldom matches Spanish word order. Every word in English has a certain role it plays. The same goes for Spanish. Your task is to learn how to recognize those roles and apply the proper grammar rules to build a sentence. We spent a lot of time in your previous threads trying to teach you some of those basics, and I don't think we even addressed everything you wrote. Once again, I believe you're trying to tackle too much.

Have a look at the first sentence of the second paragraph.

The Spanish noun and article (both indefinite and definite) must agree in gender and number. This you did well when you chose the your subject - el apartamento.

The Spanish verb must agree in person and number with the subject. The proper mood and tense are also very important. You correctly chose the right verb and conjugated it - tiene. Very good! (I'm puzzled why this same task wasn't repeated in several other spots. )

An article doesn't always precede a noun (but it is used more often in Spanish than it is in English). For instance, if a determiner (like dos, mi, or mucho) precedes a noun, the article is not needed. Some determiners agree in number and/or gender with the noun.

If a noun is plural in English, it will most likely be plural in Spanish. So, make sure your translation lists two bedrooms and two bathrooms. (Remember what I said in the last paragraph about determiners.)

An indefinite article, like 'a' in English, has an equivalent in Spanish. In order to translate 'a kitchen' into Spanish, you'll need to use an indefinite article. Do the same for 'a living room'.

Adjectives generally follow the noun they modify and must agree with it in gender and number. You chose the right adjective to describe the living room, but it isn't in the right place.

Finally, the English sentence separates multiple verb complements (direct objects) with commas and a single 'and', yet your translation contains three conjunctions and no commas.

See how many more sentences you can improve upon simply by applying the basics I've already mentioned. Take the time to conjugate verbs, and watch subject/verb, noun/adjective agreement.

Avoid sentences that refer to 'you' in a general sense, like 'you wear a suit to an interview'. The impersonal subject has an equivalent in Spanish, but you shouldn't focus on it for now. Write English sentences that reference a specific person, or group of persons, instead, like 'I wear a suit to an interview'.

I went ahead and reworked my second paragraph. Sorry for all the errors, I had to delay my studies for a couple months. I simplified what I want to say to this:

The bedroom has orange walls, two dressers, a TV and a bathroom. The kitchen has green walls, a refrigerator, many cabinets, and a stove. A dining room connects to the kitchen. My favorite place in the apartment is the living room because the red sofa is very comfortable. You will like it!

Let me suggest you to try making sure about the meaning of each word before you build a sentence, and take into account that grammar in Spanish involves a very different order of sentences.

Pink words have spelling errors.

Green words have (many) grammar errors.

"Voluntad" is not a verb. Try finding the right verb for "to will".

Thank you! I have been using a dictionary my translations, maybe its best I use less of it. I made the following corrections.

I couldnt find the verb "to will" so instead of saying "you will like it", I will say "can't wait to meet you".

"Favorito sitio" has the wrong order for noun and adjective... in Spanish we usually put the noun first, and you also need to say for whom the living room is the favourite place. (You can do this through a possessive adjective.)

"La apartamento" has the wrong article, as "la" is feminine and "apartamento" is masculine.


Your sentence "¡Tú voluntad gustas lo!" makes no sense:

I don't have any experience with conjugating pronominal verbs but I'm guessing I need the pronoun se before comunica? Or does it go after?

Sorry to bug you all with another paragraph, but I have another one. I went sentence by sentence making sure I didn't have the same errors as last time. I hope there is less to correct.

December, January, Febuary, March and April are winter months. In winter I usually rest because its very bad weather. It snows often and very cold. I wear a thick jacket and shovel the snow. May is the first month of Spring and I do a lot of cleaning. The weather is excellent! I begin to run outside again and plant flowers. June, July, August and September are summer months. It's very hot so much time is spent at beach and parks where I swim. I play golf in the evenings when it's cool. October and November are fall months. The weather is very windy. I rake the leaves, spend much time outdoors and read.

Diciembre, enero, febrero, marzo y abril son los meses de invierno. Descanso en el invierno porque hace muy mal tiempo. Hay mucha nieve y mucho frío. Llevo una chamarra grueso y retiro la nieve.
