El pretérito de saber y querer
Hola a todos.
¿Por casualidad me podrían corregir los errores y contestar una pregunta? Acabo de aprender de nuevo que el pretérito de saber quiere decir 'found out'. Hoy también supe (de nuevo) que el pretérito de querer quiere decir 'tried'. Entonces ¿cuándo se diría «quise» en vez de «traté de» o «intenté»? ¿Son más o menos intercambiables? I'll address the question posed in the first post, but believe that there may be conflicting ideas. Here goes.
You shouldn't use 'quise' when you mean to say intenté or traté de. Think about the idea of 'querer + infinitive'; wanting to do something and trying to do something suggest different ideas, in my way of thinking. By the way, no quise means 'I refused', but that isn't the same as saying rehusé, no acepté or rechacé. Along the same vein, you shouldn't use 'supe' when you mean to say aprendí, me acordé, recordé, me di cuenta, me enteré, me informé, descubrí or averigüé.
