I don't think your word in Mexico for a backhoe and a front-end loader is universal (but not entirely limited to Mexico). I found retroexcavadora and pala cargadora (de ataque frontal), respectively, for the two machines.
As far as the local word there in Mexico, I would say trascavo is the better spelling, since the word might have come from 'atrás' and 'cavar', but the spellers on the internet lean toward trascabo. ¡Aguas! Trascabo is Spanish for stumble. |

I had never heard before of trascabo nor of trascavo.
I agree with what Rusty said. As we use excavadora for such a machine, its proper spelling seems to be trascavo. It could be an apocope of trascavadora.
