Be careful with the word estúpido in Spanish. It should really be a false cognate with the English word stupid. While it can be translated as stupid, it carries a lot more weight and is considered a much stronger word than the English stupid.

yes, it's better to use "tontos" (stupid) or "absurdos"(absurd)

I'm aware of the strong meaning of estúpido, and I used it as I really think some of the gameshows are really stupid (not just in the funny sense). Thanks for the word tonto, though, sosia. I didn't know about that one.
