Ponencia

Context: "Voy a Madrid para dar otra ponencia."
I imagine this is referring to giving a speech, giving a report, etc. That is what the dictionary would lead me to believe. What is the exact meaning of this sentence?

Agree .
"Ponencia" in this context, is to speak in front of other people, usually research.

http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltCons...&LEMA=ponencia

http://diccionario.sensagent.com/ponencia/es-es/

I've always heard it used as a formal talk on something. Like in a round table or a conference. In University jargon, it can also be a lecture.
