"Coming of age" - significance varies between cultures, and also
within a given society. In NAmerica it can mean reaching legal age - 21 in the US (18 in New York), 19 in Canada. Also, in certain segments of society when a girl turns 18 she has a "coming out" celebration (as with debutantes) when she is formally presented to Society and eligible to marry. Also as poli said, reaching puberty is another "coming of age", along with other "milestones" in maturation.

I guess one that hasn't yet been mentioned is "age of majority", included
in some of the above...it varies, 18, 19, 21 years of age.
