It sounds strange to me, because I prefer an exact measure of time with "cada" ("cada mes", "cada tercer día", "cada semana"), but I agree with Irma that "cada pocos años" would be better.

Se podría añadir: De vez en cuando, un año aquí y otro allá; esporádicamente, cada tantos años; cada tantos años; al correr de unos pocos años; según van pasando algunos pocos años... (Aunque estas versiones son quizá más largas y rebuscadas, pueden servir en algunos contextos.) Todo lo cual que me recuerda que cerca del final de La residencia de los dioses (Astérix) el narrador dice algo así como que el tiempo sigue su curso... el tiempo que pasa inexorablemente.
