Aventajar
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for April 14, 2009
aventajar (verb) — to surpass, excel, beat, outstrip. Look up aventajar in the dictionary Juanita aventaja con mucho a Lupita. Juanita is far better than Lupita.

I had never heard of the word aventajar being used like that.
More like...... Hay que prepararnos desde hoy para la fiesta de mañana y asi aventajamos el trabajo. Juanita esta muy aventajada en los estudios. Tiene uno que trabajar para aventajar. I could be wrong and maybe above examples could be in addition to but again, I've never heard it used like that before. Alas, live and learn!

Unless I'm mistaken, the Daily Word example and your examples are all correct.

The word of the day example is a bit vague, but correct.
It can mean Juanita is taller, nicer, better student, faster, or anything else, than Lupita. Juanita aventaja en estatura a Lupita. Juanita aventaja en modales a Lupita Juanita aventaja en sus estudios a Lupita. Juanita aventaja en velocidad a Lupita. ...
