I spent two years in Central America and spoke Spanish 24/7. That's where, and how, I learned. I rarely spoke English. When I returned home to the USA, there were many English words I couldn't pronounce very well and there were some I couldn't remember, so I just taught my family the Spanish words for those.

I do that too, well, sort of. I speak to my dogs in Spanish (just to practice) but my verbs always come out in the present-tense 'yo' form. "Quiero agua? . . . d'oh! Quieres agua!" "Tengo hambre? . . . TIENES hambre!" etc. Good luck! Practice makes perfect (or at least, less imperfect).
