Does the meaning of the word genial change meaning depending on its postiion in a sentence? For example: el genial artista el artista genial.
I'm under the impression that one mean the brilliant artist and the other means the agreeable artist, but I've been wrong before.

I know that in Spanish the position of the adjective in the sentece sometimes drastically changes the meaning of the word as in the word dichoso.

El gran hombre - the great man
El hombre grande - the big man

Tu eres mi viejo amigo - you are my longtime friend
tu eres mi amigo viejo - you are my elderly friend

I cannot think about any example where the meaning of "genial" would change because of the position.

El artista genial <=> el genial artista, both mean that the artist is brilliant.


"¡Genial!" as an exclamation means "great!", "fantastic!"...

¿Nos vamos de viaje? ¡Genial!
Are we going on holidays? Great!

Thanks. I thought genial meant genial now I know that it is a false cognate.

Yeah, you can considered the words as one expression for one person or thing, the word Genial is wonderful or special always that you give the hang to the sentence of example.

This girl is wonderful.

Esta chica es genial.


The tree that is in my house is amazing.

The arbol que esta en mi casa es genial o impresionante.
