Muchas veces no es que los ingleses ignoren los efectos del sol sino que los tontos quieren acelerar el proceso de broncearse. La lógica es "Me pongo rojo el primer día, y al fin de la semana estaré bien".

Jejejeje.. eso estoy haciendo decirme bastante veces cuando veo un turista aquí en Amsterdam 'living it up', o apenas caendo en unos de los canales por que, bueno, no aún se da cuenta de lo que él/ la hace... (y no es por el ron tampoco.. )

I kind of lost the idea of the "guiris" and the "red people" from the North. I assume this is because the pale-skinned people who live farther from the equator (and thus have less sun) come to vacation in sunny places and get sun burned. Right? What exactly does "guiris" mean, besides a pejorative for tourists from foreign countries? And what does any of that have to do with "shrimp" (that's what "gambas" means, right?)?

I totally get this statement. When I was younger (and hopefully stupider than I am now), I would go to a tanning salon () for a few visits to "burn" myself before going to Florida each spring. That way I could lay on the beach for a week and work on my tan (because the initial burning was out of the way...) Dumb, dumb, dumb.......

First of all, I don't get where the first part of this comes from, "cuidado" vs. "condados". "Condados" = "counties", right? Where did that word come into the conversation?

And where did the vampires come into the conversation?? And I don't understand the phrase "pero informático sí".

.......... so you see, Chileno - sometimes I understand parts of these conversations, but when they turn into general "banter", I typically lose the thinking. Especially when there are jokes or plays on words. I think I also lost track of this thread because we got so far off from the original meaning of the word of the day. SOOOOooooo ... I guess I'll be off to give my Thanksgiving weekend guests a drubbing.
