"Jue"?
I hear the Mexicans around here toss that word around a lot.
Such as "Orale, jue" or "¿Qué pasó, jue?" In context it seems to mean "buddy" or "dude" or something. But I can't find it online or in my dictionary or on this site. I'm guessing I'm not spelling it right. |

What you're hearing is spelled 'güey', 'huey', 'juey' and 'buey'. All are pronounced like the English word 'way'.
One of its meanings is 'dude'. Most of the other meanings are derogatory; think about the primary characteristic of 'buey'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%BCey_(vulgar) Last edited by Rusty; March 30, 2012 at 11:10 PM. |

Rusty is right, Lajekahr. I have a lot of friends from Mexico and, being a native English speaker myself, still won't say it among them. There are many other informal, friendly-sounding alternatives from which to choose, that are not derogatory. Good luck!
