"Es" and "Está"

What is the difference between the words "es" and "esta"?
Can you give example sentences of how and why they are different?

so "esta" is used to describe something that isn't permanent? If I said "La playa es divertido" - that isn't necessarily permanent? But I would use "es" not "esta"

You should not think in terms of 'permanent'. The aforementioned thread doesn't support that argument. Think in terms of 'character' or 'characteristic' instead.
There is an 'Accents' drop-down menu above the text box. You can use it to correctly spell 'está'.

La playa es divertida.
= The beach is (characteristically) fun.

Las playas son divertidas.
= Beaches are (characteristically) fun.
