Brute you are right that dinde is d'inde-of India. It's odd that English speakers call it turkey (origins in Turkey) but Turks call it hindu believing the bird's origins are in India.
To add a new wrinkle to this theological discussion, what came first the turkey or the hindu ![]() Perhaps oajalote (did I spell this right?) is a more diplomatic term for turkey.
