term for wake up call when you are in a hotel and request a call at 7
to get up. I don't think the term is diana, but I'm not sure.

Servicio de despertar/para despertar. Be it by telephone call or someone knocking on the door.

As for "diana", I wouldn't use it in a figurative way like that.

Maybe I'd say something like:
Los pájaros comenzaron a "tocar la diana" a las cuatro de la mañana.
The birds started to "play the trumpet" at 4 am.


Cuando su hermano recibió un diagnóstico de cáncer, le sirvió como una diana para cobrar conciencia/para recapacitar/para despabilarse y decidió parar/dejar de fumar.

En inglés se entiende si dice: the birds started to play reveille at 4 AM.

Que te consta, se entiende mejor que the birds started playing the trumpet at 4 AM.

"Shirley" (the woman's name) and "surely" (a word used for emphasis) are pronounced exactly the same, so there is an age old joke that goes something like this:
- "Surely you ______________ " (fill in the blank with whatever you want)
- "Of course (or of course not), and stop calling me Shirley." (usually this second speaker would be a man, making it even funnier that he thinks he's being called Shirley.)
