"Derrumbar a plomo" suena atípico. Me parece una frase expresiva, y a mí me sugiere que algo cayó de manera completamente vertical: un edificio colapsó y no arrojó debris hacia los costados; una persona se infartó y "cayó seca"; un ave volaba y cuando el cazador le acertó, cayó como si la gravedad fuera más intensa; un avión se precipitó de manera más vertical aún que plummeting.

But things "caen como plomo", maybe "caen a plomo", but hardly "se derrumban a plomo", least of all by means of an external agent that "logra derrumbar a plomo". It looks the words of someone who seems not having the exact word when he needs it, so he uses analogies (like almost any of us when we are sleepy, slightly drunk or atheroscleroses like)
