Pleased to meet you
Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me with this, please bare in mind I am just starting to learn spanish!
I had previously learnt that pleased to meet you was mucho gusto but I have now come across encantado and encantada which apparently also mean pleased to meet you. As I understand it encantado is for when meeting a male and encantada for female but is there any difference between mucho gusto and these two words or can you use either when meeting someone? Hope that makes sense and any help will be much appreciated. |

Yes, because you're the person speaking
You meet Angelina Jolie "estoy encantado de conocerla Sra Jolie", shortly "Encantado, Sra Jolie" You meet Brad Pitt "estoy encantado de conocerle Sr Pitt" shortly "Encantado, Sr Pitt" Saludos ![]()

In English we just say "Nice to meet you" in almost all situations, no matter how formal. If you're trying to be VERY formal meeting like the President or someone like that (

Also "good to meet you" works, though I don't think "pleased to meet you" is as rare as wafflestomp makes it seem. Picture using it upon meeting your new girlfriend/boyfriend's parents for the first time, as opposed to the president. Perhaps your new boss, a respected elder, etc.
