I was looking for a different sense of the word. I didn't know that use for cinta though, so I'm glad to learn.

The accent mark used in 'interés' is there to signal that the final syllable is stressed instead of the usual second-to-last syllable. When you add the plural ending, you're introducing another syllable at the end. This new final syllable isn't stressed. The second-to-last syllable is. Since this is "normal" for a word that ends in the consonant 's', no accent mark is needed.
