Vela
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for June 17, 2008
vela -feminine noun (la), candle. Look up vela in the dictionary Es bueno tener unas velas y cerillos en casa por si se va la luz. It's good to have some candles and matches at home in case the power goes out.

Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.
I love this Chinese proverb and I wanted to share it with you.

Jammie left written and signed his last wish of being incinerated. I tried to change his little mind... unsuccessfully. I've kept vigil for him all night long. I've got no more tears. It seemed like he was suddenly to wake up and tell us all had been a joke. But such a thing didn't happen. Salomé (his daughter) and Pelayo (his son-in-law) also came to the vigil. They offered us their best songs... unsuccessfully.

¿Un botín? Jaimito wasn't a pirate. He could only have left an inheritance (una herencia) for me. But he lived all his life in a dignified poverty.
Thans a lot for your corrections, Poli. Thanks a lot, Rusty. I can see my

Jammie left written and signed his last wish of being (to be) incinerated. I tried to change his little mind... unsuccessfully. I've kept vigil for him all night long. I've got no more tears left.(Sometimes we say: I cried my eyes out. I have no more tears left.)
