I have the feeling that "sponsorship" seeks for a return while obra social is, at least in it´s origin, a more altruistic and wider concept.
What do you think?

Banks and other big companies often
sponsor arts programs like dance companies, and also
charitable organizations like race for the cure sponsored by Citibank (hypothetical).
I am sure that
corporate sponsorship is the best term for when big
companies give back a little bit to the community in the form of charity or
cultural events. The prestigious Encores program at City Center in my home town is sponsored by Newman's Own for example.
