Cursi would be the better way of saying snob, since it would be understood in more places. But in Mexico this usage of fresa is really common.

Sí lo he oído con respecto a la barbilla: ... lleva siempre la barbilla muy alta. Pero no significa snob ni cursi, sino orgulloso.

You have the same idea in English. If I tell you "Keep your chin up" I mean there's no reason for you to be ashamed.You also have the expression "to stand tall".
