This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for January 9, 2009
cabello - masculine noun (el) - hair. Look up cabello in the dictionary El cabello no sólo es de adorno; también sirve para mantenernos calientes. Hair is not only for looks; it also helps keep us warm.

I've also heard the following...... Pelo - although it means hair, should be used when referring to the hair of an animal, (not fur but hair) i.e el pelo del perro, el pelo de gato, etc. Cabello - for human hair. ![]() ![]()

Yes, you are right, the word hair at Spanish is translated as Cabello, and the same word hair is translated Pelo, but anyhow this word is simplified for the use of the word Pelo for the animals.

All points taken. Pelo can refer to an individual hair, or it can also be used as a synonym for cabello. I've also heard pelo used to refer to animal hair.
