This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for August 29, 2008

sandía - feminine noun (la) - watermelon. Look up sandía in the dictionary

La sandía contiene mucha agua y sabe muy rica.
Watermelons contain a lot of water and taste wonderful.

Patilla sólo se usa en partes de Sudamérica. ¿No?
En Centroamérica sólo dicen sandía.


Había una chimpancé, llamada Washoe, a la cual le enseñaron el ASL (American Sign Language, un lenguaje de señas usado en EEUU). La seña para sandía consiste en dos señas - la de water and la de melon. La chimpancé las cambió a drink + fruit.
Para gustos, los colores.

Aquí en Nueva York la mayoría de los hispanos son caribeños y ellos usan

Yep, idiom #3152 is a repeat of #129. This was most likely caused by a lack of communication with one of your alternate personalities.

Quedo sorprendido. Aquí patilla domina sobre sandía pero ahora que la población mexicana está aumentando se ve sandía tambien.
