I came across these saying recently, but I´m not sure of their meanings...

Muchas veces, nace la enfermedad del mismo remedio.
El que su gusto es buey hasta la yunta lame.
El hombre no sabe para quien trabaja, y la mujer para quien lo tiene

Poli, we´ll have to wait for the native Spanish speakers to throw in their lot,

since I´m not sure of their meanings myself.
If I give you 33%, then I´ll be left with even less.

El que por su gusto es buey, hasta la yunta lame.
Literally: He who by choice is an ox, will even lick the yoke.

I believe this one means that basically a fanatic or follower of a certain product/person/thing/ideology/teaching etc, (being an ox) that is fatally flawed is only harming himself and/or will do anything to support that product/person/ideology. (licking the yoke)

This one I think has a fairly literal interpretation: Sometimes the cure itself causes the sickness.

So, this translates directly to our saying: sometimes the remedy is worse than the illness

El que su gusto es guey or wey on mexico, such we saying WEY.

Then is: El que su gusto es wey hasta el piso lame.

El hombre no sabe para quien trabaja, y la mujer para quien lo hace.

Where did you hear those sayings? To me they are totally new. I could try and guess their meaning but that wouldn't be much help...

Lo siento, no escuché nunca ninguno de los tres dichos de Jane.

El hombre no sabe... No entiendo su significado.
El que su gusto es buey, hasta la yunta lame. Imagino que significa algo así como una combinación entre Sobre gustos no hay nada escrito y El amor es ciego.
Muchas veces nace la enfermedad del mismo remedio, diría que refleja un carácter hipocondríaco, algo así como creerse uno que por tomar aspirina ya está enfermo.
Existe otro dicho para sometimes the remedy is worse than the illness: peor el remedio que la enfermedad.

-You know something is not good for you but you do it anyways and then you complain "poor me", this and that happened.......entonces te pasó lo que te pasó por güey o pendejo....(can I say that word?) Notice the spelling of the word büey (old time spelling)

-Basically....you bust your a.. to do something but somebody else takes the credit without acknowledging your contribution

I found el que por gusto es buey, hasta la coyunta lame. The loose meaning is something like what Alfonso said - some people willingly endure situations regarded as unpleasant by others.

El que por su gusto es güey / buey, hasta la (co)yunta lame.

Yo creo que han salido dos sentidos para una misma frase que evolucionó desde una formulación literal, gráfica y relacionada con las labores del campo (por eso imagino que es la más antigua), hasta una formulación figurada, en la que buey (ox) ha sido sustituido por güey (tonto).

Estoy de acuerdo con el sentido que le da Elaina: You know something is not good for you but you do it anyways and then you complain "poor me", this and that happened.......entonces te pasó lo que te pasó por güey o pendejo. Aunque creo que no es necesario que uno se queje, sino que puede seguir feliz lamiendo su yugo.

me parece que signicia que muchas veces, al tratar de hacer algo, no sólo no arreglamos nada sino que lo empeoramos.
Por ejemplo, la "ley seca" llevó a un aumento del crimen.
O al querer controlar demasiado a un niño al fnal se rebela más de lo que hubiese pasado si no hubiésemos hecho nada

Son las personas que defienden a sus mismos opresores, incapaces de abrir los ojos y ver claramente lo que le está pasando. Por ejemplo en las dictaduras, los "concencidos" del gobierno. Vale para empleados demasiado lelaes, etc.

no lo conocía. Supongo que simplemente indica que nadie sabe realmente quién se beneficia de su trabajao, si su jefe, el gobierno, algún millonario, etc. Muchas veces parece que somos manejados por otros (magnates del petróleo, especuladores, multinacionales, mafias, gobiernos, etc.)

Perdón por los ejemplos políticos, pero son los más claros. No se infiera aquí ataque a ningún régimen.
