You could say: Si el tío Roberto levantara la cabeza...I cannot think of anything better...

Otra opción...
Si fulano supiera/viera .... (todo lo que ha pasado) ... se volvería a morir. Si el tío Bob supiera lo que sus sobrinos han hecho con la herencia, se volvería a morir. I've heard this from Mexicans. I don't know if it's universal.

In Spain people sometimes say:" Si Franco levantara la cabeza..." when complaining about how much things have changed in the country.

@David: "Se volvería a morir" is widely used around here without a doubt. But we also say "revolcarse en su tumba".
Si tu abuelo te viera con el cabello largo, se volvería a morir de la impresión. Tu abuelo debe de estar revolcándose en su tumba de saber que usas el cabello largo.

yes, you can use whatever historical figure, you're only saying how the things have changed since that period.
Using Franco, you mean 30-50 years ago. Lots of things have change since Franco. For example with the Netherlands "mira cómo está Holanda, si levantara la cabeza Guillermo de Orange,....." You're saying how much the Netherlands have changed in 400 years, and usually not in a good way ![]() Saludos ![]()

![]() ![]() it' s just that it surprised me a little that people would take an era ruled by a dictator as an example of how things have changed for the worse since then.. ![]() ![]() But I understand the idea now thanx - those good old days..
