Vara
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for July 27, 2009
vara (feminine noun (la)) — stick, pole, rod, bar, shaft, branch, twig, wand, sucker, switch. Look up vara in the dictionary La princesa extendió su vara mágica y todo cambió. The princess extended her magic wand and everything changed.

Una vara es una rama o palo más o menos largo y delgado. Pero para princesas, hadas y magos se usa "varita" (o varita mágica):
